Thanks for visiting!

Well, hey! I'm Heather Shuker. I live just outside of Reading, Pennsylvania. I am a Nurse Practitioner who currently practices primary care. I am also a potter. I make wheel-thrown pottery in my home studio that I sell once a year in the fall.
My passion in life after successfully losing 80 pounds through fasting and low carb eating (and keeping it off) is to help others do the same.
This website is home to my blog, Throwing Lines. I used to try to be pretty regular about posting to my blog but when I started working full time as a Nurse Practitioner, my schooling, work, and children took priority over pontificating for strangers on the internet.
Now that I have gotten used to the rhythms of my new career, I am getting back into the blogging saddle and I have some things to say about my weight loss journey that I'd like to share for the many who have reached out to me asking for help with their own journeys. Stay tuned!

Regarding the name of my blog, throwing lines are those ridges on wheel thrown pottery that are squeezed into the structure of the vessel as it is built. Many potters smooth them out, but I like to keep them on a lot of my pots. Not only do I find throwing lines attractive, but they are a visual reminder that the piece was made by human hands. I believe pottery, like life, is more interesting if you don't try to smooth over all of the imperfections. Imperfections make pots and people unique. Plus, throwing lines, you know, like, words? It’s a blog, get it? I knew you would.
